Karine Léger

Photographer

Karine Léger is a multidisciplinary and self-taught artist, living in Montreal. She works as a graphic designer, and she is also a painter and photographer. She started painting in the year 2000, reproducing photo portraits she photographed with a simple and naive stroke. With time, her portraits were characterized by a simple and touching emotion, the colors are more sober and the features, always so simple, evoke female elegance.

It's in the year 2006, during a trip to the Grand Nord of Quebec, that she discovered the infinite possibilities of photography. Mixing the portrait and the natural landscape, her desire was to express their relation through the grace, the elegance and the poetry of the being and the body. At this time, she joined the Flickr community and gained from interesting encounters that allowed her to broaden her technical knowledge and explore new roads of creativity.

Karine also has an interest for collages, a technique where she studies textures of various objects, as well as colors and space. In that frame of mind she makes an interesting return to painting, where the collages are reproduced on canvas. With this practice, she shows the transformation of a basic image crossing several interpretations (original image - reproduction in collage - reproduction of the collage in painting).

As regards to the future, Karine wishes to look further into her techniques and her methods of creation, while remaining open to all other artistic avenues.
